Errisbeg Vets Hospital
Urban Designs are pleased to announce the completion of the new Veterinary Referral Hospital in Barton-under-Needwood.
The development comprises of 850 square meters of state of the art veterinary facilities, including high specification operating theatres, diagnostic imagery facilities, consultation spaces, kennel and cattery care spaces, and a light and airy reception.
Urban Designs were engaged by West Midland Referrals Ltd. in early 2017 to guide the project from inception through to completion. The project successfully achieved planning approval in January 2018 following a complex planning process, overcoming compromises and constraints.
The building is designed as a respectful response to the site context and part utilises the existing 19th century building, Errisbeg House, whilst offering a single storey extension in a rural-contemporary style, designed to house the hospitals new clinical facilities. The design capitalises on the sites natural lighting and views out towards the adjacent Trent and Mersey canal.
The design contains eye-catching architectural features such as the large glulam structures which protrude past the buildings front elevation and inform the large sweeping curved roof profile. The beautiful western-red cedar cladding emphasises the rural feel of the site, and epitomises the design concept of encouraging the building to age naturally along with the rest of the site, as the cedar cladding weathers.
Upon completion, the project has seen a smooth on-site experience thanks to the teamwork and collaboration of all involved including Armsons Construction Management, Millward Engineers and contractor A&S Enterprises, resulting in an on-time and on-budget outcome, with a fantastic building to show for it!
